Headliner
He knew who I was immediately and we arranged for a drink and a chat on my day off. I chose a bar where I was familiar with the staff. You canât be too careful when meeting strangers.
And thatâs where it all started. AlexâââAlessandro told me to call him thatâââexplained the terms of employment at his exclusive private membersâ club, and we both recognised I was the right girl for the job.
Within three months of starting I was the headline act
From the beginning, he had high hopes for me. I would not just be any old stripper, but first I would need to learn the ropes, joining what he fondly called the Chorus. This was, and remains, a trio of gorgeous girls who start the eveningâs entertainment at the club. Some dancing, stripping and a lot of teasing is involved whilst the select crowd arrives and settles with drinks and canapĂ©s.
During my time with the small troupe, I ensured I was noticed by behaving a little more risquĂ© than the other two girls. Perhaps a wink out at the audience or throwing an undergarment into the lap of a member who mattered. Theyâd always come backstage to return it later and recommend me to the boss.
The primary supporting act after the Chorus is the very stylish Annabelleâââa burlesque artist whom the club has employed for five years. A testament to her popularity.
The headline attraction was a woman called Janine. A busty blonde. A little old school and with me a rising star hot on her heels, she decided to say goodbye to the club and enjoy her just deserts, which by all accounts were ample. The Enchanted Circle look after their staff.
This meant that within three months of starting I was the headline act and able to afford a plush flat in the better part of town, a wardrobe full of designer clothes and a crowded diary.
My proud parents tell all their friends that Iâm a professional dancer. It has been six months since I became the star turn, and I am in my element. I send home a tidy amount to mum each month and still have enough to put in a savings account.
Tilting my hat to a jaunty angle, I check thereâs no lipstick on my sparkling teeth and head out the dressing room door. Waiting in the wings, I hear Mike introduce me and my music starts to play. Stalking onstageâââlong gloves, heels and skimpy knickersâââtopless, I head for the chair in the centre, smiling to think of my old uni colleagues in their graduate jobs. I know Iâm now earning more money than they could dream ofâŠ
