Cheating #1 — Before I Saw Her
Limerence - 'My daughter Ginny needs tennis lessons — I thought of you'
Before I met her, the very last thing on my mind was cheating…

The morning sunlight broke through the kitchen window, hitting the breakfast table where I sat. Mary was flipping pancakes as if it was the easiest thing in the world — same routine every day. The kids, Shelly and Tim, were fighting over the syrup, their voices loud enough to wake the dead.
I sipped my coffee, feeling like maybe life was okay. I gave tennis lessons and had a steady stream of clients. And the garden — well that was my sanctuary.
I looked outside at my own grass-court, the sun giving it a kind of halo. It was nothing fancy, but it was mine. My days were tied to the thwack of tennis balls and the faces of kids who thought they could be the next big thing.
“John, you dreaming again?” Mary’s voice cut through.
“Just enjoying the morning,” I said, smiling at her.
“Enjoy these pancakes before Tim eats them all,” she laughed.
Tim grinned, syrup on his chin. “Dad, you giving lessons today?”
“Yeah, full schedule as usual,” I said. “But later, maybe we can practice some serves.”
Shelly rolled her eyes. “He’s already better than you, Dad.”
I laughed. “We’ll see about that.”
My phone rang, interrupting our chatter. The voice on the other end was a blast from the past.
“John, it’s Mike. Long time.”
His voice threw me back in those college days — late nights, booze, big dreams. Mike was there through it all.
“Mike, hey! Good to hear you. How’s life?”
“Not so bad. Listen, I need a favour. My daughter Ginny finished uni and is training to be a PE teacher. She needs tennis lessons. I thought of you. Can you do it?”
Ginny. Last time I saw her, she was a scrappy kid of about seven, climbing trees and getting into trouble, with an unruly shock of ginger hair. She’d possessed a whirlwind of tomboyish energy, more at home in the branches of the ancient oak in their garden, than in a dress.
Fifteen years had passed since Mike held that summer barbecue. I tried to picture her now, grown and perhaps more refined, yet still possessing that same fiery look that had marked her as a child.
I hesitated, memories mixing with the present. Before, “Sure, Mike. When does she want to start?”
I hung up, and the noise of breakfast pulled me back to the present.
“Who was that?” Mary asked, sliding pancakes my way.
“Remember Mike? He wants me to give his daughter tennis lessons.”
Tom smirked. “Bet even she’s better than you, Dad.”
I chuckled. “We’ll see. Last time I saw her, she was younger than you two are now. But it will be a change to teach an adult.”
“C’mon guys. School. I don’t want to be late to the office.” Mary came over and planted a kiss on my cheek. Catch you later, handsome.
As she snaked past me, I reached out and gave her an affectionate pat on her nicely rounded backside. “Remember to pick up some Arborio. We’re out, and I’ve got the kids from Belmont primary all day.”
“I won’t. I’m looking forward to your risotto tonight.”
“Bye dad….” Shelly shouted.
I took a deep breath before pouring myself another cup of coffee. Perhaps Mike and I would get to hook up again. Reminisce about our uni adventures. Those were the days! We got up to some steamy stuff! Members, find out exactly what HERE.
